History of Beer
Ancient Beginnings: Beer is one of the oldest alcoholic beverages, with evidence of beer production dating back to around 5,000 BC in what is now Iran. Early civilizations such as the Sumerians, Egyptians, and Mesopotamians brewed beer, often using barley. Beer was an integral part of these cultures, used in religious ceremonies and as a staple of daily diet.
Medieval Europe: During the Middle Ages, beer production became more organized, with monasteries becoming central to brewing practices. Monks refined brewing techniques and ingredients, leading to more consistent and higher-quality beer. The use of hops, which act as a preservative and flavouring agent, began around the 9th century and became widespread by the 13th century.
Modern Era: Today, beer is a global industry with various styles and flavors. Craft brewing has experienced a renaissance, with many small breweries producing unique beers. It is a growing appreciation for artisanal and locally produced beers.
